Explanation
On
April 15, 2003 California State University Fresno made several
cuts to their athletic program including the Men's Soccer Program.
This cut was made with out any advance warning to the student
athletes or the soccer community in the Central Valley.
The Valley Soccer Foundation was immediately formed and, on behalf
of the soccer community, asked to meet with the Athletic Department
in order to be given an opportunity to help save this program.
To date, We have had 2 meetings with the Athletic Director and
several other key members of the University staff and have developed
a plan to get the program re-instated.
Immediate
Needs
The
current need, determined by the Fresno State University Athletic
Department is $681,591 per year. The Valley Soccer
Foundation was given a May 15 deadline to come up with any combination
of cash and/or signed guarantor pledges that would cover the cost
to fund the Men's Soccer and Women's Swimming/Diving Programs
(a must due to title IX) for this year. If this deadline
is met, these 2 programs will be re-instated for the upcoming
fiscal year.
Fundraising
Plan
Overview:
In the Valley Soccer Foundation's fundraising
plan we are looking to meet two important timelines provided to
us by the athletic department at FSU. Cash in the amount of $341,000
is due no later than July 1, 2003. The second deadline is for
the balance to be paid in cash by November 1, 2003. These are
important deadlines because we are asking donors to contribute
$681,591 by May 15, 2003 and in the event of a cash shortfall,
the shortage can and will be made up of pledges in the form of
guarantor notices. Through implementation of this plan, which
we have studied and believe to be reasonable, we expect to meet
the financial obligations by the deadlines listed above, therefore,
relieving the guarantors of their financial liabilities.
Goal:
To raise unsecured expenses for the Men's Soccer
and Women's Swimming/Diving Programs at Fresno State University.
These expenses include scholarships, coaching salaries, recruiting
and the ordinary operating expenses of the two programs. Currently
the total expenses have been determined to be $681,591 per year
by the Fresno State University Athletic Department.
